Breaking Free From the Cages of Toxic Masculinity
~ A 6-Week Power Reclamation Immersion ~
Traditional masculinity has been defined as being a person of strength, courage, independence, leadership, and assertiveness.
These attributes are important contributions to family, culture and society. But, what happens when these masculine (yang) qualities start to overcompensate?
This phenomenon is called toxic masculinity — an exalted stoic masculine archetype reinforced through socialization and conditioning, which affects ALL people, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, and age.
Common Traits of Toxic Masculinity
In my research, I've found that the most commonly described traits of toxic masculinity are:
Domination & Control
REpressed emotions
compartmentalization
Stoicism
Self-Reliance
Aggression & violence
Sexual domination
RELIANCE ON INTELLECT
VALUE DERIVED FROM DOING & Achieving
What is the Immersion?
During this intimate and curated 6-week container, Anne-Marie, and special guest, Lisa Rueth, will guide you through an emergent, somatic, and embodied approach to collectively heal from the imprisoning shadow of toxic masculinity — space is limited.
The Six Phases
1. Preparing for OUR Collective Excavation
2. Breaking Through Conditioned Cages
3. Violence & Aggression
4. Dismantling Gender Domestication
5. Institutional Domination
6. Resurrecting a World of Noble Humans
What Sparked This Immersion Offering?
In November the Power Reclamation Collective, a free monthly online community gathering, focused on the topic of toxic masculinity.
The group was represented by men, women, and voices across multiple generations.
We vulnerably exchanged personal stories, explored how emotional repression leads to aggression and grieved together for the loss of authenticity and sovereignty that occurs when belonging is based upon prescriptive boxes of who we need to be in order to be loved.
All of this created a deep sense of safety, being seen and healing together.
Listen to a clip from November’s Power Reclamation Collective conversation on toxic masculinity:
Toxic Masculinity is adversely affecting you if….
You feel disconnected from your emotional intelligence, body wisdom, and intuition
You’re tired of managing your emotions through aggression and criticism (towards yourself or others)
When you fear being rejected you control, criticize, or dominate the other person to manage your intense feelings
You find it difficult to access what you feel and communicate those feelings with personal ownership
You withdraw or blame others when you feel misunderstood — which results in frustration and loneliness
You’re in a relationship with someone who is emotionally unavailable — and you want to open more doors for connection
You struggle to slow down — you beat yourself up when your body needs to rest
You want to participant in a conscious community with others who are devoted to vulnerably exposing and healing how toxic masculinity lives within their lives
You want to liberate yourself from these limiting ways of operating. But, how?
You’re not broken, you’re conditioned.
There is a way through, and you don’t have to do it alone.
“In a patriarchal culture, males are not allowed simply to be who they are and to glory in their unique identity.
Their value is always determined by what they do.
In an anti-patriarchal culture, males do not have to prove their value and worth.
They know from birth that simply being gives them value, the right to be cherished and loved.”
— Bell Hooks, The Will to Change: Masculinity, Men & Love
